About the artist
Mario Rodriguez Echeverry, known as MAREO, is a multidisciplinary artist born in Mexico City in 1981. Raised in Colombia and currently based in Barcelona, Mareo's practice spans painting, sculpture, installation, and digital media, exploring themes of transformation, nature, and spiritual evolution.
He holds a B.A. in Architecture from UPB Medellin (2004), a Master’s in Design from Elisava Barcelona (2006), and a Master’s in Arts from UNA Buenos Aires (2013).
Mareo’s work has been exhibited widely, with 16 solo exhibitions and numerous participations in art fairs and projects across North America, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. Notable highlights include the Arte nel Bosco land art project in Italy (2016), his solo exhibition Portals at Valletta Contemporary in Malta (2021), and a site-specific installation at the Istanbul Triennial (2022). His work has also been featured in prestigious events like the L.A. Art Show, Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival, and Illumia NFT monolith event inaugurated by Deepak Chopra in Miami. In 2024, Mareo created a colossal 60-meter-high light installation at a power plant for the Inota Festival in Hungary and opened a solo exhibition at LOAD Digital Art Gallery in Barcelona.
Mareo’s practice has been documented in several publications, including the books Expansion (2018), Matter is Condensed Light (2020), and VC 03 featuring his Portals exhibition (2022). His work is part of notable collections worldwide, including Palazzo Ferrero in Italy, META Foundation in Malta, and the Black Gold Museum in Saudi Arabia.
